On or off the slopes, Park City, Utah has it all

Many winter resort towns offer only skiing and snowboarding. In Park City, that is definitely not the case. The winter sports enthusiast can do a lot more than simply ski or snowboard at our three, world class resorts. For instance, weary skiers can enjoy the snow-capped mountains at a slower pace in a horse-drawn sleigh, ice skate in a quaint village setting, fly high above town in a hot-air balloon or rev up a snowmobile for a thrilling ride into the backcountry.

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING: Whether skating around a groomed track or savoring the solitude of the backcountry, Park City offers the Nordic skier a number of choices. The White Pine Touring Center has 18km of groomed track while in nearby in Midway, The Homestead Resort offers of skating and traditional track skating on 12 km. Also, the Norwegian Outdoor Exploration Center will gently guide Nordic skiers through the scenic backcountry in the nearby Wasatch-Cache National Forest.

HOT-AIR BALLOONING: A way to view Park City in a truly unique manner is from floating high above the town in a hot-air balloon. Those looking for the tranquility of ballooning can fly with either ABC Hot Air Balloons or Park City Balloon Adventures, both offering a wonderful experience.

ICE SKATING: An outdoor ice-skating rink is located at The Resort Center, near the base of the Park City Mountain Resort.

INTERCONNECT TOUR: Experience a day not soon forgotten skiing Park City, Solitude, Brighton, Alta and Snowbird in one day via the Ski Utah Interconnect Tour. Guided tours span the five resorts via the backcountry for a fee of $125 per person, which includes guides, lift tickets, transportation back to Park City, and lunch.

NIGHTLIFE: The rumor that Utah doesn't have any nightlife is just that-a rumor. Park City has more than a dozen bars and clubs offering lively nightlife. In fact, Park City was chosen as one of the Top 5 "party towns'' in North America by people who know what they like in a "ski town," the readers of Skiing magazine.

SHOPPING: Park City offers visitors hundreds of shops, galleries and boutiques on Main Street and throughout town, including the Factory Stores @ Park City just a few miles from the Historic District.

SNOWMOBILING: Snowmobile tours are available for one-hour or up to an all-day adventure. Tour guides lead groups to spectacular vistas via scenic backcountry trails. Self-guided tours and dinner tours are also available.

SNOWCAT SKIING: Park City Powder Cats offer guided backcountry snow cat skiing for all abilities in the pristine wilderness. The cost includes transportation, breakfast, lunch and powder skis.

SNOWSHOEING: Snowshoeing is a great way to see all that the mountains surrounding Park City has to offer, away from the resorts. Both the Norwegian Outdoor Exploration Center and Sport Touring Adventures lead tours, including day trips and overnight camping in snow caves or a yurt.

SPECIAL EVENTS: Park City activities continue with special events such as the Sundance Film Festival, cultural arts and, of course, the single largest special event ever in the Rocky Mountains, the Olympics!

THEATER & ART: Far too much to mention here.

And don't forget - Park City also offers romantic sleigh rides, fly-fishing excursions, horseback riding, dog-sled tours, historic train rides in nearby Heber and, yes, even scuba diving at the Homestead Resort.
