Lagonita Lodge

LAGONITA LODGE, BIG BEAR LAKE, CA

SNOW / SKI / WATER SPORTS- BEST KEPT SECRET
--by Barbara Durst-Taylor bdurstta@aol.com

Having recently visited our home resort, LAGONITA LODGE, in Big Bear, California, we realize this is one of those best kept secret timeshares. Why? Because no one is aware that it exists or that it is located in the beautiful Big Bear Mountains in Southern California. Beautiful, well maintained rooms, most with gorgeous views of Big Bear lake (and the only timeshare location next to the lake, I might add.) There is an indoor pool & Jacuzzi as well as an outdoor Jacuzzi with a beautiful view of the lake. Pool tables & ping-pong tables are available in the recreation room. There are even a couple video games that younger individuals can use, or older clientele who remember what old pinball games are like! The Adult Lounge has a fireplace, big screen TV and pool table only for adult use. Most of the time, this lounge is quiet and a great respite. There are even outdoor barbecues located next to the most of the units and a swing set on the property for the younger folk.

There are three different ski resorts one can drive to (Snow Valley, Snow Summit, Bear Mountain) from Lagonita Lodge and they even schedule bus trips to the local ski resorts for guests too!

Don't ski? Down the street, less than a mile walk, is the ALPINE SLIDE AT MAGIC MOUNTAIN recreation area. There is a snow run for tubes, with a ramp that takes you to the top…you don't even have to walk up a hill to slide down and the tubes are provided. There are 3 runs, and 1 snake turn run. There is also a concrete toboggan type ride, which is the Alpine Slide. This is great in the summertime.

Want to shop? Then take a nice, leisurely walk into Big Bear Village and walk around all the shops. From clothing to nick-knacks, from cooking to hardware. There are quite a few wonderful restaurants in town, including my favorite, the Broasted Chicken Restaurant. Visit the cooking stores and come away with home made preserves, lemon curd or the many taste treats they sell.

Want to see a movie? You can rent a movie at the front desk for $1.50 a day, or you can even go to the village and visit one of two theaters. One theater has just recently completed construction so it is brand new.

If you like to hike, check out the summertime activities. Pick up a map at the reservation desk and look at all the different hikes you can take in and around Big Bear Lake. During the warm weather months Lagonita Lodge has small boats for rent or you can go to the Marina and rent boats to cruise around on the lake. Like to jet ski? Rent one from the Marina.

If you visit during June/July/August, visit the solar observatory. October is the annual Octoberfest.

Next time you want clean air, to get away from it all and enjoy nature at its best, try trading into LAGONITA LODGE.
