   TRADITION & TREND

The DIRNDL, charming femininity combined with tradition , copied from the Trachten

Once a working dress, now a shooting star  ~ pure glamour

Dirndl: consisting of a top (Austrian: "Leibl") and blouse, wide skirt and a colorful apron.

If you are going to be traveling in Europe this year, you can expect to see the venerable dirndl being worn as a fashionable dress and taking the place of honor in designer window displays all over the Continent. You might want to get one for yourself while you are there; dirndls are now very IN for the fashion conscious. (If you want to see the source for much of this material, visit http://www.dirndl-dress.com )

Originally, the dirndl was the working dress of female servants (Austrian "dirn": maid, maidservant); hence the term "dirndl" as an abbreviation of "Dirndlgewand" (maid's dress). Around 1870/1880, after Kaiser Franz Joseph made it fashionable to wear Lederhosen and Tracht, the upper classes adopted the dirndl as a modern dress and wore it on their summer holidays. Today the wearing of the dirndl is generally regarded as a sign of national pride; in material, color and shape it is increasingly subject to modern influences. No real lady or young girl, not having at least one model in her cuboard.

The word dirndl also describes a young woman in many regional dialects of Austria and Bavaria. So a dirndl could be wearing a dirndl.

Wearing a dirndl is a most feminine allure, and the décolleté a very important part of the glamourous view of these dresses.

Wearing a dirndle means: you are never walking alone

The most popular dirndles are coming from Munich's and Austrian dirndl dress designers. New styles combined with old traditional shapes makes the dress so very attractive. Precious textures, embroidered, and/or laces, silver buttons and fine chains, big ribbons - a perfect combination for a grand performance.

At the Munich October Festival dirndles have each year their big outcoming. All magazines publish the Lady-VIP's dressed in a wonderful dirndl - `from the most famous dirndl designers. It would be a big faux-pas not to be dressed with a new unique dirndl in one of the beer tents.

More and more the dirndl is the coming-up outfit of women around the globe. Let's look at some models:
