Celebrate the Exciting Traditions of Mexico at Cancun's Month-Long September Festival

Locals and Travelers Revel in Cancun's Culture, Art and Cuisine at En Septiembre Viva Mexico En Cancun

Whether you're a fan of authentic Mexican food, a Latin jazz enthusiast or a traveler looking for guaranteed fun in the sun, Cancun is the place for you during the annual En Septiembre Viva Mexico En Cancun, an exhilarating festival of Mexican culture held throughout the month of September. Sponsored by the Cancun Convention and Visitors Bureau, this month-long celebration of culture, art, food, music and fun brings together the best of what Mexico has to offer in the idyllic, luxurious setting that makes Cancun a top destination for tourists of all ages.

The festival kicks off with a series of month-long events that bring Mexico's vibrant culture and rich history to life, including an exhibit of traditional Mexican paintings, themed lighting and decoration of Cancun's finest hotels, and a daily flag-raising ceremony in front of City Hall commemorating Mexican Independence day on September 16. At the same time, travelers can also indulge in the best of what contemporary Mexico has to offer, whether viewing masterpieces of Mexican cinema, viewing the works of some of the country's most influential artists, or cutting loose to the sounds of the Roots Jazz Club's daily "Jazz in Mexico" celebration.

The sky really is the limit at the En Septiembre Viva Mexico En Cancun festival. With more than 100 events, you can tempt your palate with a cornucopia of traditional Mexican dishes that go beyond standard fare at the Gastronomic Circuit: "Flavors of Mexico," September 10-23, or experience the thrill of deep-sea fishing as you try to reel in one of the treasures of Cancun's turquoise waters at a fishing tournament at Marina Aqua World, September 11.

  • Make sure the kids aren't missing out on all the knowledge and fun. Try to catch the mobile "Papalote" Children's Museum, September 1-30 where kids can touch, play and learn.
  • Feel the beautiful musical traditions of Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America at "The Caribbean & Central America Sing for Mexico" where you will hear more than 12 choral groups from the different countries and the wonderful Xcaret Singers at the Cancun Convention Center, September 14.
  • From September 14-23, the Cancun Convention Center will host a spectacular array of artisans including silver craftsmen from Taxco, pottery, photography, paintings, and sculpture, traditional regional costumes, handcrafts and, for anyone with a sweet tooth, a display of traditional Mexican candies.
