Biographical Sketch
Robert C. Wengel, RRP, is Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer of Diamond Resorts International.
As such, he is responsible for all aspects of the company’s marketing, sales and operations.
Mr. Wengel was previously Senior Vice President – Sales & Marketing for International Resort Group, Inc.
(IRG), the predecessor to Diamond Resorts. He was responsible for overseeing the sales and marketing efforts
for both the Jockey Club and Polo Towers resorts in Las Vegas, Nevada. The IRG sales and marketing team has
earned numerous industry awards and accolades under his leadership and set new standards of excellence and creativity
in the industry.
Mr. Wengel has been with Diamond Resorts for over 18 years, earning numerous promotions and increased responsibility
in sales and marketing areas. Joining the company as a salesman, he later became Assistant Sales Manager,
then Sales Administrator, Director of Marketing, Vice President of Sales, Vice President – Sales and Marketing,
and Senior Vice President-Director of National Marketing, before being named to his present position.
Mr. Wengel has been involved in the vacation ownership industry since 1981 and has served in executive sales
and marketing capacities for developments in both the U.S. and Canada. Hailing from Montana, he attended
the Montana College of Mineral Science & Technology, majoring in Petroleum Engineering. Changing direction,
he obtained real estate Sales Agent's licenses in Montana, Canada and a real estate Broker's license in Nevada
and focused his career development on this exploding segment of the hospitality industry. Mr. Wengel has
earned the coveted industry designation of RRP (Registered Resort Professional) and as a highlight in his career,
he was the recipient of the industry’s Gold ARDY Award in 1994 for “Executive Sales Manager, Large Project”.
Mr. Wengel is a long-time active member of the American Resort Development Association (ARDA),
the national trade association for the resort development industry. He serves on: the ARDA Board of Directors
and the Board of Trustees for the ARDA International Foundation. He chairs the ARDA Education Institute Accreditation
Board and the Industry Education Committee. Most recently, he was asked to serve on the new ARDA Consumer
Education Task Force. An avid sportsman and golfer, he was one of the founders of the industry’s Annual
Convention Golf Tournament and is a frequent moderator and speaker during national conventions and conferences.
