Everything about Advertising -- in no particular order

Holiday Wishes to Everyone!
-- by Lisa Ann Schreier

I am humbly asking your indulgence this column. Instead of writing about advertising and timeshare and my usual topic of honesty, I am going to write about what I have learned this year and what I hope to learn next year. You may find some of this useful. You may find some of this does in fact pertain to timeshare. You may find none of this useful. It's the holiday season; so be of good will and indulge me… we'll get back to the matter at hand soon after the first of the year.

WHAT I HAVE LEARNED THIS YEAR

---Loyalty does exist. Sometimes in the least likely places.
---You cannot and should not trust everyone.
---You must learn to trust yourself.
---Friends are very, very hard to come by.
---Defining "friendship" is a difficult thing to do.
---What may feel like a personal insult to you might not be meant as such.
---It doesn't matter if it was meant as such, what is paramount is your reaction.
---Left to my own devices, I will land on my feet.
---It isn't always a soft landing.
---Contrary to popular belief you are NOT "as good as your last deal".
---You are NOT in control of your own destiny. (OK, I cheated; I knew this
one a LONG time ago)
---You have to let go of what your think your destiny is in order to see what your
destiny truly is.
---People lie. Get over it and onto something else, or at the very least, someone
who doesn't lie.
---No matter how good, pure or beneficial your intentions are, some people will not
accept your product or you.
---In reality, your only product is you.
---You need to market your product (you) to the right people in the right way, using
the right tools (ah ha…advertising does work if its done right).
---It's true what they say about insanity…the truest definition of it is doing the
same thing over and over and over again and expecting a different result.
---Moving on does not mean giving up.
---Sometimes, old friends are the best… and sometimes they aren't.
---Money will not solve all of your problems, but it will allow you to dance all over
them (with profound apologies to Pete Townshend for the slight revision)

WHAT I HOPE TO LEARN NEXT YEAR

---If I am not as good as my last deal, what is the true gauge of my goodness?
---How to expand my energies doing the best thing with the best people.
---Being stubborn and rebellious rarely work…find something that does.
---Don't dwell on those people who don't like you. Dwell on liking yourself first.
---That the answer to my problems cannot be found on Page 33 of the newest self-
help book.
---When to move on… with people, with jobs, with prospects, with chapters of my
life.
---How to cultivate those traits within myself that I find so damn appealing in
others.
---How to say "yes" when I mean it and stick to it.
---How to say "no" when I mean it and stick to it.
---That the world, the industry, people, anything is rarely all black or all white.
---Deal with and appreciate the grey.
---How to deal with winning the lottery.

Happy Holidays to each of you. Thank you for reading my columns. Thank you for writing in response to my columns. Thank you to "The Timeshare Beat" for giving me the forum to be creative. And thank you to my friends… you know who are.

Peace.
