CANADA

NOVA SCOTIA: White Point Beach Resort has introduced the first Vacation Ownership Resort in Canada's Maritimes: The White Point Beach Vacation Club, located on the South Shore of Nova Scotia. Affiliated with RCI (it's a Gold Crown resort), they are offering 1- and 2-bedroom units, and are starting sales off-site in lovely Halifax. White Point Beach Resort is a branded property in that it has been entertaining Canadians for 75 years, AND they have thousands of acres for expansion. Sounds like a happening deal.

ASIA

CHINA:
The Beijing Jin Lu Xiang Vacation Consulting Co Ltd opened its doors to the Beijing population Friday 19th September 2003, as it embarked on a new and innovative strategy for the Chinese vacation ownership market under the leadership of Bryan Lunt.

This is a joint venture operation. Royale Marketing Ltd, the main shareholder of the company, has extensive worldwide experience in the vacation ownership industry including resort operations as well as sales centres and owner service centres in Matalascañ as (near Seville) and Marbella Costa del Sol in Spain, Chayofa in Tenerife in the Canary Islands, Moscow in Russia, as well as Pattaya, Phuket and Koh Samui in Thailand.

As the first Chinese duly-appointed company on the Mainland for the Caravanserai Vacation Interval Program at the Silk Road Dunhuang Hotel, Gansu Province, China and with its prestigious HQ in Beijing, the Beijing Jin Lu Xiang is set to become the dominant player and innovator in China. You can see some photos here, and read more about it here: East meets West in a style fit for the increasingly wealthy Beijing population (Bill Gates recently visited the Silk Road Dunhuang Hotel, and we figure if it's good enough for ol' Bill, it's good enough for us. Y'all ought to visit the URL provided in the press release for that hotel and look at the interior photos. Yow!)

UK & EUROPE

ENGLAND:
NORTH DEVON: What happened with Hartland Forest Golf & Leisure Parc? This is a full ownership deal that was affiliated with RCI. You could buy one of their Scandinavian-style cedar lodges (and get guaranteed income of approximately 6% annual return on the purchase price if you made it available for letting). Or you could participate in timeshare exchanges around the world. But it has disappeared from the RCI website, and RCI has disappeard from Hartland's website.

LONDON: Following action by the Office of Fair Trading, the director and company secretary of Exmouth-based holiday voucher redemption company Travel Quest Group Limited have given undertakings not to publish misleading advertisements or breach consumer contracts for free flights and/or accommodation in the future.

Consumers were promised a holiday if they attended a timeshare presentation. Sound familiar? At the presentation Travel Quest holiday vouchers were given to consumers which offered free flights and accommodation if they returned an application form and met certain other conditions. Consumers were presented with a choice of several holiday options. In all cases the holiday was to be provided within 18 months and was subject to the payment of a processing fee. Consumers complained that they had either not been offered any holiday within 18 months (or not on the dates that they had selected) and that they had been unable to get a refund of their processing fees within a reasonable time.

Travel Quest has now gone into voluntary liquidation but its former director Lisa De-Ville Bradshaw and former company secretary Timothy John Roberts have given undertakings to the OFT not to engage in such conduct in the course of any business carried on by them. You can read more in this press release: Holiday promoters agree not to mislead consumers

SPAIN: Judge Marí a Jesú s del Rí o remanded Robert Graham, 39, a timeshare salesman from Manchester, in custody Sept. 23 on suspicion that he was an accomplice to Tony King in the murder of 17-year-old Sonia Carabantes last month and 19-year-old Rocio Wanninkhof in 1999. But on Sept. 24 Graham was released from jail in Alhaurin de la Torre, in the south of the country, because the time limit within which he could be charged with the offence had expired.

King, 38, also from the UK, has confessed to the killings. Fingerprints have confirmed that in 1995, shortly before moving to the Costa del Sol where he worked as a barman, Mr King changed his name from Tony Bromwich. Bromwich was jailed for ten years in 1986 for a series of strangulations of women in north London which earned him the nickname the Holloway Strangler. He served half his term before being released. AND: The San Francisco Exchange Company (SFX) has announced an affiliation with the Club La Costa Group (CLC). Club La Costa owns 19 resorts in Spain, Tenerife and Scotland. Mel Grant, President & CEO of SFX explains that this special relationship will provide preferred access exchange opportunities for members of both companies.
