Sunterra Corporation has launched a new brand image and logo, placing strong emphasis onthe 'Sunterra' name and ensuring that its corporate and Club Sunterra logos adopt a more similar and stronger visual element.

More important, the principal corporate name of Sunterra Corporation's European subsidiary is changing from Grand Vacation Company Ltd. to Sunterra Europe Ltd., which makes good sense and will help resolve potential consumer confusion. These changes will not affect the structure of the companies involved or of Sunterra's European club, Grand Vacation Club. Grand Vacation Club members will vote next month on adopting the Club Sunterra name for their European club.

The introduction of a common image and name is a further step towards the globalization of their points-based vacation club. This is the first time ever that their US and European operations have shared a common name and image.

CANADA

BRITISH COLUMBIA:
VANCOUVER: West Coast Timeshare Ltd
., developer of Point to Point Destinations, has named Roger Lessard as Executive Director of Client Generation - Canada, effective September 1, 2003. Mr. Lessard brings a wealth of experience in the area of trade show, referral, OPC, box and direct contact lead generation as well as a long history of leadership in both inbound and outbound timeshare telemarketing centres.

West Coast Timeshare Ltd. is the fastest growing timeshare company in Canada. It recently split into three divisions - Point Sales - Canada, Point Sales - US and Conversion Sales, and is recognized as one of the leading companies in the RCI Points Conversion field. West Coast Timeshare Ltd. recently became the first Canadian timeshare developer to open off-site sales centres in the State of Washington, with new offices in Seattle, WA (points), Bothell, WA (points) and Everett, WA (conversions).

THE UK & EUROPE

WALES: We are hearing that sales reps at Graig Park Village & Country Club are offering a money-back guarantee when you purchase RCI Points there, saying that you can recoup all your money at the end of three years. Is this true? If so, is this the influence of the 'mob' from Tenerife that was allegedly brought over to Graig Park to convert owners?

Mind you, we have been made aware since early times that many of the companies and individuals selling RCI Points are the worst heat merchants in the business. Why? They consider RCI Points a great big legal scam, and couldn't wait to get in on it. We know this is true, because we talked to some of them when Points was first rolled out. They positively chortled with glee about it.

MEXICO

SONORA:
PUERTO PENASCO: Further to last week's blurb on the Mayan Palace, a certain someone sneaked into town last week and took some pictures. We are told that Mayan has all the OPC locations sewed up in PP, and they're EVERYWHERE. Only problem so far seems to be that PP is such a weekend town that during the week days the place is dead as a doornail. Even the taco stands don't open up. But guaranteed: if anyone is snagging tours, it's the Mayan.

Here are some pictures, if you'd like to see them: The lobby looks out over a waterfall toward the pool and the Sea of Cortez | Outdoor Pool | Indoor Pool | The Mayan from a distance | The Mayan close up | The Beach

QUINTANA ROO:
CANCUN:
Does Avalon Resorts really have properties in progress and near completetion in Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas, Jamaica, and Cuba? And what is the status of the Avalon Reef in Belize? Come on now. Someone knows. Talk to us. Are we to assume that these properties are non-existent and prospects are being lied to?

INDIA

According to an article in Express Hotelier & Caterer, India's only Business Weekly, India now has over 50 timeshare resorts and more than 40,000 families are unit owners. Interestingly, a large number of timeshare owners overseas exchange their holidays in Indian resorts through the exchange companies, with India among the top ten preferences for UK citizens.

But India's Department of Tourism dropped a bombshell on the fledgling industry last May when the revised norms for hotel classification were announced. Far from even providing a restricted or stringent procedure for classification, or leaving the door open for later entry, the department of tourism provided that any hotel which spares even a few of its rooms for timeshare will be denied classification. We'd bet it's an image thing. Read the entire article here: (external) Time Share Demands Its Share
