" The theory of a free press is that truth will emerge from free discussion, not that it will be presented perfectly and instantly in any one account." -- Walter Lippmann Street Talk is a compendium of tips, facts, gossip,

The 2nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Timeshare Members of Swiss-Garden International Vacation Club is being held today (Friday, Nov. 21) in Kuala Lumpur. SGIVC, launched just 2 years ago in Sept. 2001, has been growing pretty fast. The company offers 6 resorts in Malaysia and 1 resort in Sydney, Australia managed by Swiss-Garden International Sdn Bhd. In total, there are currently internal exchange possibilities in around 60 hotel/resort properties (home based and affiliates) in Malaysia, Indonesia, Spain, the UK, Kenya, Australia and Thailand. The Club is affiliated with RCI. SGIVC is a wholly owned subsidiary of PJ Development Holdings (PJD) Berhad, one of the leading property
developers in Malaysia listed on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange. In recent years, PJD has diversified its core
business of property development, construction and manufacturing into hospitality development and management, operating
under the Swiss-Garden brand. |

SPAIN: On this website you will also find information about the debacle at Lanzarote Beach Club. That is a particularly ugly story, and LBC members have their own website at http://www.lbcma.org/ You may remember that legal action is being taken against LBC regarding the fact that some 19,000 families who own at the resort are losing their right to future holidays at a total cost of almost £ 150M. If this is eventually shown to be a fraud then it will dwarf the John Palmer figure - £ 40 million – by a huge margin. You can refresh your memory here: Is This the Biggest Fraud in Timeshare History? THE UK: As we briefly mentioned last week, Macdonald Hotels & Resorts has chosen Interval International as its exclusive exchange provider for its new points club branded Options by Macdonald Hotels & Resorts. In designing the system, a hybrid points club was developed that allows existing fixed-week owners the flexibility of retaining priority booking of their week while accruing the annual increment of points. The club currently offers nine Macdonald resorts: four based in Scotland, three in Spain, and one each in England and Wales. When owners deposit their weeks into the club, they receive their annual points allocation and priority on use
of the week deposited. MacDonald says that at the end of the 30-year duration of the club, his company will return
property rights to club members who own fixed weeks in perpetuity. |

DUBAI: The first ever Timeshare and Resort Investment Conference (TRIC) in the Middle Eastern region will be held in Dubai on December 8, 2003 at The Arabian Court of the prestigious One and only Royal Mirage Hotel. 'The remarkable growth in tourism and the booming construction industry in Dubai have led us to choose this Emirate as a venue for the conference. The timeshare industry has a tremendous potential in this region, hence we are keen to educate industry professionals on the role of the industry and its functionalities,' says Mr. David R. Clifton, Interval International's Managing Director for Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia. We've been telling you to keep an eye on Dubai. In case you haven't been paying attention, Dubai is a modern city-state that is part of the United Arab Emirates*. It has one of the world's top 10 airports, the Travel Channel's number 1 pick for the most luxurious hotel in the world, and hosts 3 major world sporting events: the Dubai Desert Classic, a stop on the Professional Golf Association (PGA), tour, the Dubai Open, an ATP event, and the Dubai World Cup, the richest horserace in the world. There is also timeshare there, though not very much, and they are exploring new regulation of the product to make sure their reputation doesn't suffer from sleazy operators. Kuwait-based International Financial Advisors (IFA), through its subsidiary IFA Hotels & Resorts
has been a name to watch in Dubai, with the recent announcement of a major project on The Palm, Jumeirah.
In an interview with Gulf News, James Wilson, president and chief operating officer of IFA Hotels
& Resorts, provides an overview of the company's plans for the region and beyond in its strategy of developing
upscale mixed-use developments-- which includes residential units, vacation club units, hotels and resorts. The
luxury timeshare concept at the five-star level is also something they are intent on developing in these markets,
starting with Dubai. See the whole interview: (external) Interview: Kuwaiti firm eyes luxury time-shares , and also see: IFA & Moreland in Major Joint Venture in South Africa Tourism
SOUTH AFRICA: Kerzner International has announced an agreement with Victoria & Alfred Waterfront (Pty) Limited to develop a new six-star deluxe, luxury hotel in Cape Town, South Africa. This new One& Only hotel is to be located in The Victoria & Alfred Waterfront (" The V& A Waterfront" ), which is part of Cape Town's waterfront and harbor. Considering that South Africa is where Kerzner had its beginnings, and considering that timeshare was part of the original Sun International properties, can we hope for a timeshare component at this property? What a great location, right there on the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront... E-mail street@thetimesharebeat.com |
