Soon we discovered words could be made by correctly placing them side by side
or they could become super cargo when our wooden toy train took them for a ride.
Blocks became things like forts, trucks or doll houses in our childlike imagination
little did we know then, that these creative instincts would be there for the duration?
Other lessons we did learn as we made these simple building blocks creations,
things like words of more than three letters and the need for solid foundations.
We soon discovered that working together with someone else would be lots of fun
and that by adding their building blocks with ours, greater things, they could be done.
Now childhood is gone and we no longer play with our building blocks as much
however, the lessons we learned while using them, they add up to a whole bunch.
Hand-eye coordination, expanded vocabulary and working together, just to name a few
and how we can use imagination, creativity and a delicate touch in everything we do.
Sometimes when our guard was down a bully came by to attack the towers we built
and caused our blocks to go tumbling down and around without any cause or guilt.
Didn't he know that we would clean up the rubble and begin to build all over again
and that our proud flag would be unfurled by each and every one of us, and then…
There would be hell to pay for him and those who provided him and his kind protection
for our mighty war machine is on its way, bringing retaliation in their direction.
The places he seeks to find refuge and his friends will have to bear wave after wave
of our smart bombs, our missiles and armies, until they find him cowering in a cave.
Now I guess this little ditty about kids and building blocks, has come full circle again
and sometime in the 21st century a child will bring them out and invite over a friend.
Our WTC twin towers are just a memory now, but to build a model of them, they will try.
starting with a solid foundation and adding blocks one by one until they reach the sky.
And what they will learn from what seems to be simple games with little blocks of wood
were in fact, truly life lessons which would last for years and serve them well and good.
In a land and home like we have, where we are free to make words and build our dreams,
content that those who despise our liberties, won't ever succeed in their terroristic schemes.
