News: United Nations' report slams European asylum policy
A new report, commissioned by the United Nations' refugee agency has accused European countries of forcing refugees to rely on traffickers. The independent report says that tough European asylum policies have effectively closed the legal door for genuine refugees.They now have to turn to smugglers if they wish to escape persecution, it says. Nearly 250,000 people applied for asylum in western Europe last year.
