WHISTLER, BC -- The first snowfall of the season hit Whistler over the weekend, with over 60 cm of snow now forming a base in the alpine. Snow covers the valley from the peaks of Whistler and Blackcomb mountains, to the village below, and the entire resort is buzzing in preparation for a busy winter season.

And an exceptional winter is expected. Forecasts are for another record year of heavy snowfall due to La Nina weather system. Last year, La Nina brought to Whistler the largest snowfall in twenty-five years. The US Weather Service, NOAA released forecasts that predict above average snowfall again this season, for the Pacific Northwest region.

Excellent winter packages are now available to guests by calling 1-800-WHISTLER. Early season ``Winter Magic'' packages offer some great value options. Guests pay only $89 Cdn ($61 US) per person per night, for accommodation and lift pass, based on double occupancy and a two night minimum stay. Additional nights can be added, and other custom packages are also available.

Holiday season ``Maximum Millenium'' packages include 5 nights accommodation, a 4 day lift pass to Whistler and Blackcomb mountains, $50 dining dollars for dinner in a village restaurant, tickets to First Night celebrations in Whistler Village, and a decadent welcome platter with chocolate and champagne. New Years eve celebrations are plentiful for the millenium countdown in Whistler. First Night in Whistler Village will be alcohol free, with three outdoor stages featuring live entertainment, and a children's activities tent. Admission is $15, with children 6 years and under free. The Whistler Conference Centre will be hosting the Turn of the Century Millenium Gala, a five-course sit-down dinner featuring Juno nominee jazz artist Jesse Cook. New gladed runs have also been cut on Whistler Mountain.
