ASPEN, CO -- In June of this year the wrecking ball and tractors tore apart the old 76-room Snowmass Lodge in Snowmass
Village, Colorado, owned by the Aspen Skiing Co.
What is appearing in its place is the Snowmass Club Private Residence Resort.
A popular form of fractional ownership which seems designed to get away from the negative connotations of the word "timeshare", as well as to more handsomely reward the developers, Private Residence Resorts, or Clubs, are cropping up all over the place. Some will affiliate with a timeshare exchange company such as RCI or Interval International, and others-- such as the Phillips Club in New York-- go a more private route.
In some circles the new Ritz-Carlton fractional offerings are also referred to as a Private Residence Club.
But in most circles, a fractional Private Residence Club by any other name is still timeshare, and at least in most states are legally regarded as such.
Nevertheless, the Snowmass project has been designed to give the future Ritz-Carlton resort in nearby Aspen Heights a run for its money.
The Snowmass Club Residences, due for completion in the summer of 2000, were designed by Cottle Graybeal Yaw
Architects to give a prime resort location with majestic views of Mt. Daly and Snowmass Ski Area. Interiors were
designed by the well-respected firm Slifer Designs of Colorado.
For each club residence, a total of seven memberships - and no more - will be sold. There will be 98 two-bedroom
memberships and 112 three-bedroom memberships for a total of 210 undivided deeded interests (UDIs) in Phase I.
The developer of Snowmass Club is Snowmass Club Associates, L.L.C., a Colorado general partnership and a wholly
owned subsidiary of Aspen Skiing Company.
Ownership in this resort will include the ability to share in the Snowmass Club.
According to its own press, "Snowmass Club, founded in 1968, has long been considered the heart and soul
of life in Snowmass Village. Year-round residents, families and second homeowners alike have joined to create a
unique and enduring culture. One that is immediately welcoming, sophisticated, enlightened, and warm. Snowmass
Club combines a long list of amenities (championship golf, health and tennis club, restaurant and ski valet) with
the best location for enjoying all that Aspen and Snowmass have to offer.
Now, for those who have found it's easy to acquire a taste for Snowmass, we bring you Snowmass Club Private Residence
Resort. You can have everything you want: the comforts of home, the recreation and activities of a world-class
resort, the at-your-service of a fine hotel, and shared ownership of a luxurious residence."
