Press Release
Copper Mountain, CO Winter 1999/2000: Phase II of the Renaissance of Copper Mountain, already well underway,
promises to transform one of the best ski mountains in Colorado into one of the most exciting year-round resorts
in the country. Focused in the Center Village, Phase II is creating a village that lives up to a mountain the United
States Forest Service has called, “The Most Nearly Perfect Ski Mountain in the United States.”
In an unprecedented move, all four buildings comprising the heart of the new Center Village – Base One, The Mill
Club, Crossroads Inn and Tucker Mountain Lodge – will be completed simultaneously and ready for occupancy by the
2000/2001 winter season. Complete with shops, restaurants, social spaces and open plazas designed to incorporate
the rustic natural elements surrounding Copper, the new village was designed as an auto-free pedestrian plaza with
all parking spaces located beneath. It will offer bold and unique architecture, lush landscaping, easier access
to the lifts and year-round festivities to intensify the guest experience.
“The old village didn’t have a sense of excitement or flow,” commented village designer Eldon Beck. “The redesign
will provide a feeling of community, a sense of place and a surprise at every turn. We are not just building a
new village at Copper. We are transforming the entire resort experience.”
The Clocktower building, Copper’s original base area lodge, has been removed to make way for a bold glass and timber
multi-functional structure dubbed Base One. The new lodge will house 63 residential units as well as shopping,
dining and guest services in 35,000 square feet of commercial space. Base One will be the focus of resort operations
including ski and snowboard school registration desks, lift ticket windows and the Mountain Adventure Center which
is home to resort-operated rental facilities and demo centers.
The Mill Club is patterned after small, intimate hotels beloved in resorts around the world. It offers 31 exclusive
mountain homes with unparalleled amenities and services. A five-star dining establishment, superior concierge service
and a luxurious décor including granite, sandstone, leather and marble have been incorporated into the club’s
architecture. Homes will feature designer kitchens, generous floor plans with nine-foot ceilings, elegant furniture
and formal living and dining areas designed for entertaining.
Crossroads Inn will offer 51 new lodging units and an experience comparable to the stately Stanley Hotel in Estes
Park, Colorado. Sweeping rooflines, cedar shingles, a three-story stone fireplace, fire pits and a health club,
define this building. Adjacent to the four-season activity on West Lake, Crossroads Inn will feature spectacular
views of the mountain, the village, West Lake and Ten Mile Creek. It will also offer a large outdoor spa on the
edge of the creek.
Tucker Mountain Lodge will house 80 studio, one- and two-bedroom mountain homes just to the west of Crossroads
Inn, behind the existing Copper Commons. The heavily timbered lodge will feature an intimate residential setting
defined by rustic wood cabinets, stone accents and stone fireplaces with wood mantels in all residences. Reminiscent
of a national park lodge, Tucker Mountain Lodge will also offer outdoor hot tubs and an all inclusive fitness room.
Copper Mountain is a year-round destination resort located 75 miles west of Denver in the Colorado Rocky Mountains.
