If you like the mountains, enjoy being pampered at a spa, and still like being close to the action, a vacation interval at David Walley's Resort, Hot Springs and Spa might be just the ticket for you.

Nestled at the base of the majestic Sierra Nevada Mountains, overlooking the Carson Valley, Walley's has hot mineral spring spas, swimming pool, fitness center, tennis, banquet faciltites and historic cottage accommodations. Once a stop on the Pony Express route, it is now a Quintus Resorts property. Quintus has built upon Walley's rich history and carries on the tradition of offering an invigorating, soothing, and healthful environment for day–spa visitors and vacation owners alike.

Located on Foothill Road – not far from Kingsbury Grade, which snakes up a mountain to Lake Tahoe – the resort is convenient to both skiing at Lake Tahoe and sightseeing and shopping in Genoa, Nevada, the state’s oldest continuously occupied settlement. It is only a little further to Reno, "the biggest little city in the world".

“We envision David Walley’s as a rustic La Costa, if you will,” says Lex Adams, principal and chief executive of Quintus. Adams envisions "substantially upgraded" facilities. In recent years, locals and visitors to the area used David Walley’s primarily as a mineral pool. Now, David Walley’s will be “spa driven,” featuring a full-service spa and a health and wellness program. All resort staff – from maintenance personnel to front-desk clerks – will have training on all spa amenities so that any staff member will be able to answer guests’ questions.

In addition to massage, the spa offers body treatments, mud wraps, aromatherapy, customized facials, manicures, pedicures, and instructional classes on fitness and diet. Amenities include six mineral hot spring tubs, a heated outdoor swimming pool, fitness center, and men’s and women’s steam and dry saunas.

When the second clubhouse is built – planned for phase III or IV – the first clubhouse will become “adults only,” with the second clubhouse reserved for families.

In addition to the two tennis courts on–site, guests will have preferred tee times at Genoa Lakes Country Club, two miles down the road. Two other courses are in the local area.

The restaurant, which will focus on healthy foods, will open in July this year. The café is already open and serving the roughly 200 members and day-use spa visitors. The facilities are currently available for weddings and other functions.

The restaurant provides perhaps the best view of the adjacent wetlands. Quintus plans to build a boardwalk out and into the wetlands so that guests can get a close-up view of the birds and other creatures inhabiting the area. The management intends to offer checklists for birders, and to develop wildlife programs with environmental agencies.

David Walley’s will sell year-round floating units, with Interval International managing the internal exchange. “We went with Interval because the quality of our resorts fits in with Interval’s commitment to quality,” says Adams.

Quintus Resorts, LLC, was formed in 1998 by Ronald Wilhite, Lex Adams, Bob Dunbar, and Bob Sewell, executives from The Ridge Tahoe/The Resorts West Group; and Gary Grottke of Walton Vacation Resorts, LLC. David Walley’s Resort, Hot Springs and Spa was Quintus’ first acquisition.

Quintus plans to add two to three resorts per year. Currently, resort projects are in various stages in Branson, Missouri; Southern California; Arizona; the Pacific Northwest; and the Hawaiian Islands. Focusing its expansion on the western United States and Hawaii, Quintus is targeting the upper range of the vacation ownership product, with top- quality amenities and service.
