WHITE PLAINS, NY--Starwood Hotels, the parent company of the Phoenician resort on Camelback Road in Scottsdale, may have lost out on its efforts to build a Westin convention hotel in downtown Phoenix, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have other development plans for the Valley.

Juergen Bartels, CEO of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc., said during a recent visit to the Phoenician that the company has a lot of interest in the rapidly growing Phoenix market, but he declined to be specific about any plans for the area.

The White Plains, N.Y.-based hotel conglomerate had proposed developing a Westin Hotel on the Collier Center site north of America West Arena until financing fell through on the project early this year.

Starwood was disappointed that the Westin deal stalled, said Bartels, who hinted that another Valley project might be in the works.

Meanwhile, Starwood announced earlier this month that it has acquired timeshare operator Vistana Inc., which developed the Embassy Vacation Resort in Scottsdale and the Villas of Cave Creek. The company has plans to develop timeshare units at the Phoenician, a Starwood Luxury Collection 250-acre golf resort and spa.

Among the amenities available at the Phoenician are:
• 474 Guest Rooms

• 107 Private Casitas

• 73 Luxurious Suites

• The Centre for Well-Being Spa

• 27 Hole Championship Golf Course, Clubhouse and Pro Shop

• Tennis Garden Featuring 11 Secluded Courts

• Nine Heated Pools and 165-Foot Water Slide

• Eleven Restaurants and Lounges

• Daily Guest Activity Programs

• Funicians Club for Kids
