Carlson Hospitality Worldwide is moving into two new areas: vacation ownership and what it describes as "lifestyle
living." At a press conference in New York last week, President/CEO Curtis Nelson announced the creation of
Carlson Vacation Ownership, which will license properties in resort destinations worldwide under the Regent (luxury),
Radisson (upscale), and Country Inns & Suites (mid market) flags. The company has also entered into an agreement
to establish a vacation club for members of Tempus Resorts International and to reflag its 633-acre Palms Resort
in Orlando. The other venture, Carlson Lifestyle Living, will incorporate lodging with condominiums and townhouses
in resort-like settings designed to appeal to "our active, aging population," Nelson said. The first
Carlson Park, as the complexes will be known, is being developed in San Antonio. It will feature a Country Inns
& Suites hotel, though future projects will also be built around Radissons. The company anticipates developing
15 Carlson Parks in the South, Southwest, and West over the next five years.
