Luxurious Ocean Club, One of World's Most Exclusive Resorts, To Become Even More Appealing
Sun International Announces $40 million Expansion With Temporary Closing Until December 22

Press Release: Sun International

September 29, 1999
PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas -- When A&P heir Huntington Hartford II opened the exclusive Ocean Club in 1962, his intention was to entertain and pamper guests in a style more reminiscent of the Riviera than the Caribbean. In 1994, Sun International Hotels continued the legacy when it purchased and renovated the property to the company's exacting standards. Since then, the Ocean Club has enjoyed non-stop popularity with heads of state, business leaders, celebrities and international visitors who value the property for its elegance, privacy and service levels.

To meet the increasing demand for the Ocean Club, Sun has announced an expansion plan of approximately $40 million that will add rooms and suites as well as a new restaurant, spa/fitness center and dramatic enhancements to the property's legendary Versailles gardens without tampering with the charm and privacy that has placed the resort among the world's most elegant and refined hotels. The 58-room property will be closed until December 22, 1999 in order to complete the heavy construction stage of the project. The total expansion, to be carried out in several phases, is expected to be completed by December, 2000, with no disruption to guests during this year's winter holiday season.

"We are excited about the plans for the Ocean Club's expansion,'' said Sol Kerzner, chairman of Sun International. "The expansion will greatly enhance our ability to exceed the expectations of our most discriminating vacationers.''

The Ocean Club expansion will include:

-- Three new luxury villas plus 54 spacious new rooms (650 sq. ft.), including six suites, in five two-story buildings, each accommodation featuring private garden settings and magnificent views of the ocean;
-- A new beach-front restaurant and bar that will be under cover but open air (seating 80 indoors, 40 on a terrace and 25 at the bar);
-- A new spa/fitness center adjacent to the resort's swimming pool which will be renovated;
-- A new porte cochere and reception building featuring a cozy, intimate lounge, bar and library;
-- Further enhancements to Ocean Club's grounds and gardens.

The resort's elegant island plantation ambiance will be carried through in the new facilities with the same use of columns, railings, and other elements of Bahamian colonial architecture that has helped define the graciousness and refined beauty of the property since Sun International opened it. The expansion project has been designed by Hill Glazier Architects, Barry Design Associates (interiors) and Peridian (landscape architects), all of California.
