WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Marriott Golf has been named to manage The Georgian Golf Club, featuring two 18-hole championship golf courses in Atlanta, Georgia. The golf facility is part of the city's first destination resort, The Georgian Resort, which is expected to be completed in the year 2000.

The first golf course to be constructed on the resorts 1,150 scenic acres is being designed by renowned golf course designer Tom Fazio, and is scheduled to open fall 1998. The layout will be a par 72 course offering challenging ridges and valleys. Designed by Jack Nicklaus, the second course at The Georgian Golf Club will be a 7,000 yard, par 72 layout carved out of hardwood forests and surrounded by luxury corporate residences and villas.

"We are very excited about being selected to manage this outstanding golf facility," said Claye Atcheson, vice president of Operations at Marriott Golf. "The Georgian Golf Club will be the premier public access golf club in the Atlanta area."

Herman A. VonHof, president and chief executive officer of Grand Cypress Development Company, L. L. C. (GCDC) stated, "We are thrilled to have Marriott Golf Manage our golf facility. The Marriott name is synonymous with quality service and consistency."

Atcheson indicated that the facility will include a club house, pro shop and practice facility. The courses will be open for daily fee play and that area residents will be encouraged to play on the courses. Corporate memberships will also be available. Once completed, The Georgian Resort will encompass the golf club, a 500-room hotel, tennis and golf academies, luxury spa and equestrian center.

In addition to the Golf Club at The Georgian Resort, the Marriott Golf management portfolio also includes three facilities in the Scottsdale, Arizona area; two in Palm Springs, California as well as three in Florida, Orlando and Marco Island, including the newly opened Faldo Golf Institute. Other facilities are located in Bermuda, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Alabama, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri and Tennessee. Facilities currently under construction include Cattails at Meadowview in Kingsport, Tennessee (1997) and Westfield Golf Club in Centerville, Virginia (1998).
