Former Las Vegas Mayor Accepts New Position Reports to Chairman and CEO

LAS VEGAS, NV -- Harrah's Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE: HET) Chairman and CEO Phil Satre announced today former Las Vegas mayor Jan Jones has been hired to serve as the company's senior vice president of communications, a new position reporting to Satre and serving on the senior executive team. Jones will be responsible for shaping the public perception of Harrah's Entertainment through public relations, community relations, financial communications and government relations.

Jan Laverty Jones was mayor of Las Vegas during a time when it emerged as the fastest growing city in America. In 1991, she was the first woman elected to public office in Las Vegas, and in 1995, Jones was reelected to a second term with 72% of the vote. She led the city as it experienced in excess of $1 billion in additional growth in the downtown area, including the $70 million Fremont Street Experience, which she was instrumental in bringing to fruition. While mayor, Jones addressed the 1992 Democratic National Convention, and spoke on the topics of gaming, gaming regulation and urbanization at meetings around the world, including Harvard's Kennedy School of Government, the Detroit City Council, the People's Republic of China, Japan, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Atlantic City.

Prior to serving as mayor, Jan Jones was the president of Fletcher Jones Management Group overseeing marketing and administrative functions for eleven car dealerships within the western United States. Her other business experiences include serving as the vice president of research and development for Thriftimart Corporation, director of operations for Val Gem Catalog Showrooms and the director of human resources for SMC restaurants.

Jan Jones has a bachelor's degree in English from Stanford University. She serves as a director of Community Bank of Nevada, and is currently serving as the vice chair for the Democratic National Committee Business Council. Her many civic contributions have been recognized with numerous honors and awards including Humanitarian of the Year from the Muscular Dystrophy Association and Heroes Award from the National Conference of Christians and Jews. Her community leadership resulted in being named Las Vegas' Favorite Female for eight years in the Las Vegas Review-Journal's Best of Las Vegas poll.
