LAS VEGAS, NV, and ATLANTIC CITY, NJ-- Boyd Gaming Corporation, (NYSE: BYD) announced today that The Borgata, its
$750 million casino resort development in the Marina district of Atlantic City, has applied for a CAFRA (Coastal
Area Facility Review Act) Permit. Boyd Gaming is developing the joint venture project with Mirage Resorts, Incorporated
(NYSE: MIR). The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, Land Use Regulation Program requires that all
major projects located in the Coastal Area secure a CAFRA Permit.
William S. Boyd, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Boyd Gaming, said, ``The CAFRA permit is an important
milestone as it enables us to establish our construction timeline. We intend to break ground in the second quarter
of 2000 and expect to open in 2002.''
Robert L. Boughner, Boyd Gaming Chief Operating Officer and The Borgata Chief Executive Officer, added, ``The Borgata
will be the first entirely new hotel-casino to open in Atlantic City since 1990. Our 25 acre site and New Jersey's
positive regulatory changes involving casino design provide us with great opportunities to create a new and lasting

The Borgata will include approximately 1,200 guest rooms and suites, a casino with 108 gaming tables and 3,000
slot machines, eight destination restaurants, 12 retail shops, 4,100 parking spaces, European style spa, special
