MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)----Regent International Hotels Thursday announced the opening of The Regent Grand
Spa At The Resort At Summerlin in northwest Las Vegas, the first luxury golf and spa resort off The Strip.
This elegant new hotel, offering 286 rooms and suites, is the first of two Regent hotels to open at The Resort
At Summerlin. The second hotel, The Regent Grand Palms (255 rooms), is scheduled to open late September.
"We are pleased to introduce the distinctive Regent hospitality experience, which is acclaimed around the
world, to visitors and guests at The Regent Grand Spa in the Las Vegas market," said Paul Hanley, president,
Regent International Hotels.
"The opening of this elegant hotel, in one of the world's most important leisure markets, is also a landmark
event in the continuing growth of Regent International Hotels, which includes the announcement of nine new hotel
and resort locations in the past 18 months," Hanley said.
Regent International Hotels is part of Carlson Hospitality Worldwide, which has headquarters in Minneapolis and
licenses the Regent brand name to The Resort At Summerlin.
The Regent Grand Spa Offers Uncompromising Luxury
Located within 25 minutes of both the McCarran International Airport and the famous Las Vegas Strip, The Regent
Grand Spa is sited on a plateau 1,000 feet above the city. Guest rooms and suites offer panoramic views of the
Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area to the west and glittering lights of Las Vegas to the east.
Connected to The Regent Grand Spa is Aquae Sulis, a 40,000-square-foot health spa with 36 treatment rooms, a salon,
fitness areas and boutique. It offers an international range of treatments, including Siddha Vaida techniques,
aromatherapy, Thalassotherapy, facials and loofah scrubs.
The Regent Grand Spa and The Regent Grand Palms serve as the centerpiece of The Resort At Summerlin, developed
at a cost of $276 million (plus leased items) and located in the affluent Summerlin residential area northwest
of Las Vegas.
The hotels are situated on an elaborately landscaped, 54-acre site that includes an extensive complex of gardens
and pools highlighted with 3,300 trees. Focal points include an 11,000-square-foot, grass-edged pool with a waterfall
and multimillion-dollar lighting system designed to create an alluring twilight ambiance.
Unlike the mega properties on The Strip, The Regent Hotels are designed for discriminating business and leisure
travelers who wish to enjoy an elegant resort atmosphere away from the crowded strip and still have easy access
to Las Vegas' many entertainment opportunities. The resort also features extensive meeting facilities for conferences
and banquets.
Guests at The Regent Grand Spa and The Regent Grand Palms will enjoy preferred tee times at nine golf courses including
TPC at The Canyons, which borders the property. The resort also features a 50,000-square-foot casino with 1,200
slot machines and 40 game tables.
From now until Sept. 30, The Regent Grand Spa is offering an introductory package of $149 per night including continental
breakfast for two. The toll-free reservation number is 877/869-8777.
Regent Expanding in the Americas and Worldwide
"The arrival of Regent into the exciting Las Vegas market, combined with the upcoming opening of The Regent
Wall Street in New York City, the most important financial and business location in the world, represent landmark
growth for Regent International Hotels," Hanley said. "These three new hotels in the United States are
a superb complement to Regent's existing North American property, The Regent Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills,
California.
"A primary development goal for Regent International Hotels, following its acquisition by Carlson Hospitality
Worldwide in November 1997 was expanding the company beyond its Asian roots to the Americas. We are very proud
that these new hotels reflect significant progress in our plan."
The Regent Wall Street is scheduled to open later this year and, according to Hanley, four more Regent hotels and
resorts are under development in the Americas and are scheduled to open over the next several years. Additional
properties are also in advanced stages of negotiation in the Americas and Middle East with formal announcements
expected in the next few months.
Last month Regent International Hotels opened The Regent Mumbai in India's commercial capital (formerly known as
Bombay), and The Regent Almaty in Kazakhstan (central Asia) was added in September 1998.
"Regent International Hotels now has tremendous development momentum, and the continued expansion demonstrates
the global power of The Regent name and hospitality experience," Hanley said.
