COSTA MESA, CA -- The Keith Companies, Inc. (Nasdaq: TKCI) yesterday announced that it has been awarded multiple
new projects located in the Playa Vista Development, just south of Marina del Rey, California.
The first phase of the Playa Vista Master Plan consists of 2,592 for-sale residential units; 167 market rate rental
units; 487 ``affordable'' units; 25,000 square feet of retail space; 55,000 square feet of office space; and 120,000
square feet for shared use. An additional 1,200,000 square feet of office space, 300 hotel rooms, and 10,000 square
feet of retail space has also been approved by the City of Los Angeles. Playa Vista's completed 1,000-acre community
will encompass 500 acres of open space, as well as homes, offices, restaurants, shops, and a movie studio. Playa
Vista is expected to open in early 2001.
The Keith Companies is providing services for two residential developments for the Olson Company and a joint venture
of Playa Capital Company and Shea Homes. Olson's project is proposed for 116 units, while the joint venture of
Playa Capital and Shea will consist of 81 units on approximately three acres. Both projects are attached multi-story
condominium complexes with semi-subterranean parking facilities. The Keith Companies has also been retained to
provide engineering support services to the land developer, Playa Capital Company, to assist with the construction
of Phase 1.
Additionally, Tettemer & Associates (Tettemer), a subsidiary of The Keith Companies, has also been retained
to provide engineering and design services for the preparation of plans, specifications, and estimates for a private
storm drain system for the Playa Vista Development.
