MIDWEST EXPRESS HOLDING REPORTS STRONG PERFORMANCE FOR TRAFFIC AND CAPACITY

MILWAUKEE /PRNewswire/ -- Midwest Express Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: MEH) Monday reported June traffic data for its
Midwest Express Airlines and Skyway Airlines operations. Strong demand for air travel in June drove performance
systemwide, with 28% increases in both traffic and capacity at Midwest Express resulting in a load factor of 72%.
Midwest Express Airlines
Midwest Express Airlines' revenue passenger miles (RPMs) increased
27.9% in June 1999 to 188.5 million from 147.4 million in June 1998. Available seat miles (ASMs) increased 28.4%
to 261.5 million from 203.7 million ASMs a yearago. Load factor was 72.1% in June, compared with 72.4% a year earlier.Passengers
boarded increased 23.9% to 212,927 from 171,843 in the same month last year.
For the second quarter of 1999, RPMs increased 25.3% to 517.1 million from 412.6 million in the same period of
1998. ASMs in the quarter increased 25.1% to 761.8 million from 609.0 million in the same quarter a year ago. Load
factor for the quarter was 67.9%, compared with 67.8% last year. Passengers boarded for the second quarter of 1999
rose 20.9% to 581,194 from 480,805 in 1998.
For the first half of 1999, Midwest Express reported a 23.5% increase in RPMs to 944.5 million from 764.5 million
in the first six months of 1998. ASMs increased 22.8% to 1.5 billion from 1.2 billion in the same period a year
ago. Load factor for the first half was 64.4%, compared with 64.0% last year. Passenger boardings were up 19.7%
in the first six months of 1999 to 1,052,491 from 879,175 in the comparable period last year.
Skyway Airlines
During June, Skyway Airlines, The Midwest Express Connection,
recorded a7.8% increase in RPMs to 7.7 million from 7.1 million in June last year. ASMs increased 0.7% to 14.0
million from 13.9 million in the same month a year earlier. Load factor for June was 54.8%, compared with 51.2%
in 1998. Passengers boarded increased 8.4% to 35,361 from 32,606 a year ago.
For the second quarter, RPMs increased 8.2% to 21.3 million from 19.7 million in the same period of 1998. ASMs
increased 1.2% to 41.3 million from 40.8 million in the same quarter a year ago. Load factor was 51.7%, compared
with 48.3% last year. Passenger boardings for the second quarter of 1999 were 97,874, up 8.8% from 89,942 in the
same quarter of 1998.
For the first six months of 1999, Skyway Airlines posted a 9.2% increase in RPMs to 39.5 million from 36.1 million
in 1998. Skyway's ASMs were 80.4 million, up 0.1% from 80.3 million a year ago. Load factor was 49.1%, compared
with 45.0% in 1998. Skyway boarded 181,616 passengers during the first six months of 1999, up 10.4% from 164,492
passengers boarded a year earlier.
