Press Release: The Los Cabos Tourism Board
October 2, 2001
LOS CABOS, Mexico -- The Los Cabos Tourism Board announced yesterday that what was once Hurricane Juliette has departed from the area and has now weakened to a tropical depression.

Says Alfredo Rosas, Director of the Los Cabos Tourism Board, ``We are pleased to let the world know that Juliette caused minimal damage here in Los Cabos. We had heavy rains, which caused some beach erosion. But our airport is open again and will return to its normal schedule by tomorrow. Likewise, our roads are open; our resorts have experienced minimal damage, and telephone service should be back to normal within the next 24 hours. Fishing following the storm is incredible, and we look forward to hosting four major tournament this month.''

Reports indicate that the floodwaters that resulted from the heavy rain in the Los Cabos area dropped very rapidly. Businesses in the area have removed precautionary boards and tape from their windows, cleaned up any debris and opened their doors again. Beachfront hotels, which sustained only minor damage, are fully functional and operating with electricity and standard quality water. Tourists who weathered out the storm are now enjoying sunshine, blue skies and the many activities that Los Cabos is famous for.

The Los Cabos Tourism Board wishes to thank its many friends, who have forwarded inquires and good wishes as a result of the storm. The area, which has enjoyed increased airlift in recent months (including a Delta non-stop from Atlanta beginning on December 1) is positioned to accommodate enhanced tourism during the 2001/2002 winter season.
