Press Release: Cabo del Sol
October 18, 2001
LOS CABOS, Mexico -- Cabo del Sol, the 1,800-acre golf resort community located six miles east of Cabo San Lucas,
has re-opened all its facilities, including The Ocean Course, in the wake of hurricane Juliette.
The development suffered only minor damage from the storm that hit the area on September 27th, according to onsite
project director, Alberto Villada Camarino. The Ocean Course re-opened on Saturday, October 6th. The Jack Nicklaus
Signature design was recently ranked again among ``The Top 100 Courses in the World'' by Golf Magazine.
``The Ocean Course held up exceptionally well thanks to reinforced drainage and sturdy course construction,'' said
Ray Metz, general manager of all golf facilities at Cabo del Sol. ``Within a few days we took care of all clean
up and we were back in business.''
The luxury golf resort community's newest course, The Desert Course, a Tom Weiskopf design, scheduled to open on
November 9th, sustained greater damage. The opening of The Desert Course has been delayed approximately 45 days.
Tom Weiskopf and senior design associate Phil Smith were on site on October 15th to evaluate the course's status.
``We are very pleased and impressed with how the construction held up,'' said Weiskopf. ``Only non-turf and drainage
areas sustained any significant damage. With some light earth moving and clean up work, the course will be back
on track again. If weather conditions remain optimal, the goal is to open The Desert Course in time for Christmas.''
Metz encourages travelers to check with the U.S. golf reservations office at +1-800-386-2465 for a current update.
The Ocean Course is taking reservations.
