BALTIMORE-The Hotel Employees and Restaurants Employees union has taken another step in fighting a proposed luxury
hotel and condominium project at the Inner Harbor here by creating a Web site attacking the project. HERE has launched
www.lisquarewatch.org, a site that tracks news and information about LI Square Corp., a New York- based development
partnership that has plans to build a 225-room hotel under the Ritz Carlton brand and 97 luxury condominiums.
The Web site is only the most recent salvo against the development project. Just over one month ago, HERE put out
a research report attacking the development. In that report, the union contended that LI Square has not been willing
to talk with HERE about a labor peace agreement, which in part would allow the union to attempt to organize workers
on the project. The union also attacked the labor track record of Atlanta-based Ritz Carlton and its parent company,
Marriott International of Bethesda, MD.
