AUSTIN, TX -- Texas Governor Rick Perry and Texas Economic Development (TxED) Executive Director Jeff Moseley took part in a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, November 21, to officially re-open South Padre Island's Queen Isabella Causeway, linking the Island to the Texas mainland.

The causeway re-opened a month ahead of its original December 23 completion date, marking a return to business as usual on the Island following a September 15 accident, which led to a partial collapse of the causeway.

``While traveling to and from the Island by ferry was a new experience for a lot of us these past two months, we are all very happy that the bridge is now open again, and I urge all Texans to rediscover South Padre Island and the Rio Grande Valley area,'' noted Jeff Moseley, TxED executive director.

The area continues to be one of the state's top tourist destinations, adding to the diversity of travel experiences that Texas offers tourists -- from El Paso to Beaumont, and Amarillo to the Rio Grande Valley. The travel diversity illustrates why we say, ``Texas -- It's like a whole other country.''
