KO OLINA, OAHU, HAWAII -- October 24, 2001--- For the third straight year, Ko
Olina Community Association will proudly spearhead the Thanksgiving Outreach Project for homeless, low income, and single-parent families residing along the Leeward Coast. The Thanksgiving luncheon celebrations will begin mid-day Saturday, November 17 at participating churches in West Oahu.

Volunteers expect this year's turnout to be the biggest in the state, and are preparing to serve 3,500 meals at 18 different locations including Makaha, Waianae, Maili, Nanakuli, Kapolei, Makakilo, Ewa Beach, Waipahu and Pearl City. Members of various congregations have planned local, backyard entertainment for their Thanksgiving guests.

Chefs from the J W Marriott Ihilani Resort, Niblick Restaurant and Kapolei High School will be preparing the food with the assistance of students enrolled in food service classes from Waipahu High School. Some 2,000 pounds of turkey, 450 pounds of ham, 600 pounds of rice, 100 gallons of gravy, 450 pounds of corn, 3,500 rolls, 350 pumpkin pies, and more will go towards the feast. United Parcel Service has volunteered the use of their trucks and their drivers will distribute the food to churches where the meals will be served. Arrangements have also been made to accommodate those who do not have the means or ability to travel.

"We are fortunate to have employees who truly epitomize the meaning of Aloha," said Ken Williams, General Manager of the Ko Olina Community Association. "Their sincerity and enthusiasm to make a difference in the lives of others are an inspiration to all of us." The Thanksgiving Outreach program is a fine example of neighbors helping neighbors. The project began as one person's passionate vision and was embraced by other employees of the Ko Olina community, most of whom reside on the Leeward Coast. Continued Williams, "it is important that we do not forget to share with those who are less fortunate this holiday season, especially in light of recent events."

Monetary donations are still being accepted. Contributions will go toward the purchase of food for the lunches. Checks can be made payable to Thanksgiving Outreach Ko Olina and can be mailed to Ko Olina Community Association, Attn: Kim Wood, 92-1480 Aliinui Drive, Ko Olina, Hawaii 96707. Those wishing to serve as volunteers may call Natasha Clarin at 671-2512.
