Waikiki hotels, aiming to fill empty rooms with locals, are throwing in the one extra that could lure Oahu residents into a weekend date in the tourist district: free parking.

Latest to make the offer is the local Aston chain, which offers free parking for kama'ainas -- proof of residency required -- at its Waikiki Banyan, Waikiki Sunset and Waikiki Beach Hotels.

A free 4:00 p.m. checkout is also added, and a free daily newspaper, and a coupons for meals and entertainment, effectively allowing someone who already lives on Oahu to get away from it all without any logistical complications.

Aston (not to be confused with Astin, which is a Starwood chain) is a Honolulu company that operates 33 condo resorts and hotels on four Hawaiian islands. It is an affiliate of ResortQuest International, the world's biggest timeshare company.
