Ken Lepic got excited about buying time shares after he discovered the whopping discounts on resales. The Bellevue,
Wash., retiree recently paid $4,000 for a weeklong peak-season slot in a two-bedroom, two-bath unit on the Caribbean
island of St. Maarten. The previous owners paid about $15,000 for it, and buying new at a comparable resort would
likely cost even more. Now, for an annual fee of about $600, Lepic plans to spend time in the sun and away from
the cold and rain of Washington State. He can also trade his time for, say, a week in Hawaii or another getaway
by going through a time-share exchange company.
