LAS VEGAS, NV -- The Villas @ Polo Towers, the elegant new timeshare resort on the Las Vegas Strip, has received the top national award for suite design from the American Resort Development Association (ARDA).

Diamond Resorts International, the developer of the resort, was presented the coveted ``Gold ARDY'' at the recent ARDA National Convention in Orlando, Fla.

``We're thrilled that The Villas suites have been recognized as the best-designed product to hit the timeshare market in the year 2000,'' said Stephen J. Cloobeck, president and chief executive officer of Diamond Resorts. ``We believe our suites are on a par with the other elegant new hotel suites that have been built recently on the Strip at The Bellagio, The Venetian, The Aladdin and Mandalay Bay. The difference is our suites can be purchased as vacation intervals, enjoyed for a lifetime, and be passed on to the owner's heirs.''

Opened in the summer of 2000, The Villas @ Polo Towers is the 22-story third tower of the highly successful Polo Towers project. It contains 190 luxurious one- and two-bedroom suites, each equipped with a full kitchen, a soothing whirlpool tub, a custom entertainment center, and a spacious balcony offering spectacular views of the Strip, the city or the nearby mountains. The two-bedroom suite measures 1,103 sq. ft. and sleeps six comfortably.

Towers I and II of Polo Towers, constructed in the early and mid-1990s, also earned a Gold ARDY for innovative design, ``and set the standard for suite design for the new millennium,'' Cloobeck said.

Describing The Villas suite design, he added: ``The design blends a sense of casual comfort and rich detailing with the use of textured velvets, hand-carved wood, granite countertops, inlaid Italian tile, custom furnishings and beautiful artwork. The suite's sun-warmed golden tones and relaxing ambiance provide a soothing retreat from the fast-paced days and nights of Las Vegas. It's like a luxurious custom home-away-from-home, right in the heart of the Las Vegas Strip.''

He noted other creative design elements such as the suite's space-saving wall bed. During the day, the bed is hidden away in the wall behind a rich honey-toned wood panel making way for an intimate furniture grouping; and during the night, the bed is conveniently pulled down for extra sleeping space.

The Villas entry was selected for the industry's highest award over entries submitted by some of the largest hotel and hospitality companies in the world. ``This is a high honor, particularly when you consider the level of the competition,'' Cloobeck concluded.
