Plans for a 51-suite time-share project near the base of Aspen Mountain appear to have conceptual support from
the Aspen City Council, but members couldn’t quite bring themselves to grant conceptual approval to the proposal
Monday.
The council voted unanimously to delay a decision for two weeks while the city further explores the impacts of
a time-share project vs. a standard hotel on the generation of tax revenues. Councilman Terry Paulson was absent.
The new owners of the vacant Grand Aspen Hotel are seeking an amendment to already approved conceptual plans for
a 150-room, moderately priced hotel at the site. Demolition of the Grand Aspen is getting under way, and representatives
of the investment group that recently purchased the property urged the council to give the time-share arrangement
its blessing.
