Like a photo in a chemical bath, a picture of the new Fort Lauderdale beach is beginning to emerge. It looks like
a timeshare resort. But a posh timeshare resort.
Eight new projects have been proposed for the A1A strip, making it a hot spot of beach redevelopment in South Florida.
All have some kind of condo or timeshare feature to them. If built, they would cater to a different clientele than
the faded tropical hotels that have lodged tourists for 50 years.
The new Fort Lauderdale beach would be marbled with the moderately rich, who would visit to enjoy their upscale
timeshare or condo linked to a hotel dripping with amenities. They definitely would be older, less transient and
more fashion-conscious than the Spring Break crowd that once epitomized the city.
