CLE ELUM — Cle Elum is envisioning a growth spurt that would put even the gangliest of teenage boys to shame.
The city is in the midst of a public process to plan for a 1,100-acre urban growth area that would extend from
the city’s northwest boundary along state Highway 903 to encompass the Bullfrog Flats area.
The term “urban growth area” originated with the state Growth Management Act. It refers to land a city expects
to annex within the near future. Though the land eyed by Cle Elum’s leaders is not incorporated, the city, in conjunction
with the county, has planning authority over the land.
