Entrada project one step closer to construction

Scaled-back plan OK'd by city planners

After nine hours of debate and review Wednesday, the city Planning Commission approved developer Bill Levy's most recent plan to redevelop lower State Street with time-share condos and retail shops.

In a 4-3 nighttime vote, the seven-member appointed panel that helps steer local development put the project -- dubbed Entrada de Santa Barbara -- one step closer to construction.

In separate action, the commission approved a court-ordered environmental impact report released in February that declared Entrada will not block any important mountain views.
