Big job brings employment

Redevelopment has brought a steady paycheck to many South Shore construction workers and has visiting laborers spending their wages on the hill.

The Park Avenue project is employing about 90 Lake Tahoe residents and nearly 200 workers from Florida, Washington, and El Dorado County among other places.

"There hasn't been a big job in Tahoe since 1998," said Joe Stewart, a South Shore resident and project engineer. "I think it's fantastic for local construction workers. It has been one of the biggest, steadiest projects in any given period of time."
