NEW YORK, NY -- Cendant Corporation (NYSE: CD) yesterday announced that it has added former U.S. Secretary of Defense,
The Honorable William S. Cohen to its board of directors. Secretary Cohen, 60, has been elected to join the board
effective immediately, which will bring the board's number of directors to 14 and the number of outside directors
to eleven.
Cendant Chairman, President and CEO, Henry R. Silverman stated: ``We are delighted to welcome Secretary Cohen to
Cendant's board of directors. His outstanding background and public service record combine to make him a valuable
addition to the Company's board as we expand our operations internationally.''
The Honorable William S. Cohen was confirmed as the nation's 20th Secretary of Defense in January of 1997. He previously
served three terms in the U.S. Senate for the State of Maine (1979-1997) and three terms in the House of Representatives
from Maine's Second Congressional District (1973-1979).
Secretary Cohen received a B.A. cum laude in Latin from Bowdoin College in 1962 and his LL.B. cum laude from Boston
University Law School in 1965.
