LUDLOW, VT -- The State of Vermont has finally issued an Act 250 permit, allowing Okemo Mountain Resort to begin
construction of the long-awaited Jackson Gore expansion. Offering new lifts, trails, four-season recreation and
the Jackson Gore Inn, the new expansion is sure to enhance the experience of every visitor to the Okemo/Ludlow
region.
On Friday, December 29, 2000, the State of Vermont issued a 113-page decision on the project, allowing it to move
forward. The findings are comprehensive. Hundreds of hours of testimony and thousands of pages of evidence were
examined to produce the document.
“It was a long time coming, but it’s a very positive permit,” said Tim Mueller, co-owner of Okemo Mountain, acknowledging
that the permit had been pending for almost three years. “We’re very pleased with the outcome.”
Mueller indicated that site preparation and selective tree removal is now scheduled to commence this winter, allowing
for construction to begin sometime in late spring or early summer.
“This is what everyone involved in the project have been waiting for,” said Mueller. “It will be very gratifying
to see the project physically underway.”
Okemo Mountain is developing a whole new resort area with its own access road off Route 103 and a quintessential
New England resort village at the foot of the slopes. The plans for Jackson Gore feature 16 new trails, many with
steeper pitches than any on Okemo Mountain. In addition to the cut trails, plans call for 55 acres of gladed trails,
a lighted halfpipe and snowboard park, snowtubing and a beginner learning area. All this is designed to be serviced
with five new lifts, including two high-capacity quads and a brand new gondola.
The Jackson Gore Inn is a fractional property, offering quarter ownership, which will be affiliated with RCI for
exchange opportunities. It offers 1- 2- and 3-bedroom units.
At the top of the line, the Executive Suite 3-bedroom unit is a 1608-sq ft lockoff that sleeps 12. Among other amenities, it offers 3 full bathrooms, jetted tub, exterior deck, full kitchen, washer/dryer, entertainment center, underground parking and Village Club Membership. It is also available with a loft.
Not all styles of units will be available in Stage II, so the resort recommends that if you are interested in inventory of a particular type you should visit them or their Website now to make sure you can get exactly what you want.
Quarter ownership gives you 13 weeks of use every year for the rest of your life. It is a deeded, willable property
that does away with the responsibilities associated with ownership of a second home. Ownership also means optional
participation in Okemo Mountain Resort Properties' lodging rental program, allowing you to take advantage of rental
opportunities when you’re not using your unit, without having to do anything a landlord does.
