A fire during the early morning hours on Jan. 3 damaged the timeshare resort at the Club La Pension in the 100 block of Decatur Street in New Orleans. No one was injured in the blaze, and the damage was mostly confined to the exterior of the building.

According to local reports, the fire broke out shortly before 7 a.m. near some air conditioning motors on the third floor of the roof area and extended up the back wall to some rooms on the fourth floor. The 55 firefighters and 15 units called to the location were able to stop the fire at that point, putting it out before it spread to the rest of the building.

Additional damage was caused by water from the hoses, though the extent of the damage and what it will take to make restorations and repairs is uncertain at this time. Also unclear is how many guests were in the building at the time and what arrangements were made to care for them after the fire.

E-mail inquiries and phone calls to the resort to ascertain more details went unanswered.

Located at Canal and Decatur Streets, Club La Pension is within a short walk to everything the French Quarter has to offer. Cafe Giovanni is located on the resort grounds, and Bourbon Street, casino gambling, the Mississippi River and shopping are nearby.

An RCI-affiliated Resort of International Distinction, the elegant Club la Pension offers 1- and 2-bedroom units with air conditioning, full kitchens with dishwasher and microwave, and all the other amenities that are expected in a resort of this quality.
