Familiar names change, but quality remains key

The Hyatt has been a good neighbor for Hilton Head Island for many years, and the name will be missed when the island's oldest and largest resort hotel becomes a Marriott.

The switch in management and name is to take place next year at the 505-room oceanfront hotel in Palmetto Dunes Resort.

Marriott, like Hyatt, enjoys a good reputation for family travelers and convention organizers. And Marriott has earned a good reputation on the island through a resort hotel it opened and managed for 12 years in Shipyard. And its successful timeshare operations began here and are a major economic factor on the island. Marriott's work in timeshares, buoyed on Hilton Head Island, has been a boost to the industry's image.
