Fearlessly, Kellie Geweke and her two friends pointed their skis downhill, let out a jubilant 'Woooo" and
then threw themselves over the point of no return. They glided across the trail, dodging ice and bumps, until collapsing
together in the snow with big smiles across their faces.
"Wow, that was good," Geweke said while riding the chairlift up for another run here at Squaw Valley,
set among the granite peaks on the north shore of Lake Tahoe. Her friends, classmates from California State University
at Chico, nodded in agreement, adding "Great conditions" and "You couldn't ask for better weather."
After suffering through dry weather and slow ticket sales last year, California's ski resorts are gearing up for
a strong season after a series of early snowstorms and big investments that they hope will rejuvenate the industry.
