Press Release: Spa at Pinehurst
November 13, 2001
VILLAGE OF PINEHURST, NC -- The new Spa at Pinehurst, a major additional amenity for the Pinehurst resort, will
welcome its first guests on March 27, 2002.
Reservations for Spa guests are now being taken at 1.800.487.4653 (Option 2). According to Pinehurst officials,
the early interest in the Spa and its luxury services has been very strong.
Construction on the 31,000-square-foot building began in December of 2000 and a mild winter kept the work on schedule.
Standing just east of the venerable Carolina hotel, the $12 million luxury spa will open as the largest and most
fully equipped spa ever built east of the North Carolina mountains.
``Seeing The Spa at Pinehurst move close to completion marks a new direction for our resort,'' said Patrick Corso,
President and Chief Executive Officer of Pinehurst. ``We know it will add to the experience of both the golfers
and non-golfers who come to Pinehurst for a relaxing getaway.''
The Spa at Pinehurst will be notable for treatments and personal care products that reflect the personality of
Pinehurst, located in the picturesque North Carolina Sandhills.
A team of spa experts, landscape and building architects, international botanists, cosmetic chemists and historians
worked together to meld the spa experience with the essence of the historic resort's environment.
Soon, the Spa will offer exclusively designed spa products and treatments that recreate the scents and sights of
Pinehurst, based on actual samples taken from the region.
The spa's architecture also stays true to Pinehurst's storied past and historical importance. While thoroughly
modern on the interior, the Spa's appearance is in careful concert with the fabled, 100-year-old Carolina hotel.
On the inside, the Spa will have a Southern feel, incorporating the flora of the Sandhills and the refreshing vitality
of Pinehurst. The local themes will carry through each treatment and package offered, including local botanicals
such as holly berry, magnolia and pine for aromatherapy and body treatments.
The Spa at Pinehurst adds an impressive amenity to Pinehurst's attractions, including eight premier golf courses,
a renowned 24-court tennis complex, water sports at Lake Pinehurst, nine dining facilities and more.
Pinehurst is part of a collection of luxury golf destinations that make up the Pinehurst Company, a wholly owned
subsidiary of ClubCorp, headquartered in Dallas, Tex. In addition to Pinehurst, the resorts include The Homestead,
Hot Springs, Va; Barton Creek, Austin, Tex.; Palmilla in Los Cabos, Mexico and Firestone Country Club in Akron,
Ohio.
ClubCorp purchased its Pinehurst interest in 1984 and set about to return Pinehurst to its former glory as a world-class
golf and resort destination. Pinehurst was awarded the 1999 U.S. Open and will be the site of the 2005 U.S. Open
championship.
