Press Release: Celebrity Cruises
May 11, 2001
MIAMI, FL -- Celebrity Cruises yesterday named long-time Celebrity executive Ares Michaelides senior vice president, Marketing and Brand Planning, expanding his financial and administrative responsibilities to include marketing and brand development.

Michaelides has played a major role in the evolution of the 11-year-old cruise line. Since joining the then four-year-old company in 1994, as vice president of Finance and Administration, he has helped to shape the five-star product, secure the brand's premium position in the marketplace, and guide the overall growth of the company. From 2000 through 2002, Celebrity's capacity is doubling to 16,000 berths and nine ships. Michaelides also led Celebrity's efforts in the 1997 merger of Celebrity and Royal Caribbean International.

``Ares has been instrumental in making Celebrity Cruises the success it is today,'' said Celebrity President Richard Sasso. ``He has been involved in every major decision, and at every level of our operations, from building ships to picking music for television ads. He knows this brand as well as anyone, and I can think of no better person to promote our product.''

Prior to Celebrity, Michaelides worked as vice president for Chase Manhattan Bank, and, earlier, as assistant vice president of the Industrial Bank of Japan and financial analyst for Moody's Investor Services.

Currently, Michaelides serves on the company's Vessel Newbuild Steering Committee, Ethics Committee and Fain Scholarship Committee. He also chairs the company's Diversity Council.

Michaelides holds a bachelor of science degree in math and economics from Drew University and master's degrees from the London School of Economics. He also holds a chartered financial analyst (CFA) designation.

Michaelides replaces James Lomonosoff, who is leaving the company to pursue entrepreneurial opportunities.

Celebrity Cruises is the highest rated premium cruise brand in the industry and has the youngest fleet of any major cruise line. Celebrity's eighth ship, Summit, launches this Fall, and Constellation will make its maiden voyage in May 2002. For more information, visit the Celebrity web site at www.celebritycruises.com.
