Press Release: Marriott International, Inc.
May 10, 2001
ORLANDO, FL -- Marriott International, Inc. (NYSE: MAR) and AAA have signed a long-term agreement which will provide
AAA members with best available rates under AAA's Show Your Card & Save® program at Marriott International's
extensive portfolio of hotels around the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. Members of affiliated
auto clubs globally, including the AAA-affiliated Canadian Automobile Association as well as motor clubs in Europe,
also will be eligible for AAA rates in these hotels.
The agreement, covering more than 330,000 rooms at Marriott International lodging properties, extends the total
number of rooms available under AAA's Show Your Card & Save® program to more than one million and will
be effective June 1. The arrangement between AAA and Marriott also provides for the creation of discount destination
offers for AAA members that will be marketed both locally and nationwide.
Marriott Hotels, Resorts & Suites; JW Marriott Hotels, Marriott Conference Centers; Renaissance Hotels, Resorts
& Suites; Courtyard by Marriott Hotels; Residence Inns; Springhill Suites; Fairfield Inns; and TownePlace Suite
will participate in this agreement.
``AAA's membership is an ideal clientele for Marriott's diversified portfolio of properties. Marriott offers a
wide variety of hospitality options for AAA members, who tend to travel more often and have more disposable income
then the general population,'' said Bruce Wolff, Marriott's senior vice president for distribution sales and marketing.
``AAA is proud to expand our Show Your Card & Save® lodging family to include one of the most recognized
and respected brands in the industry.'' said Mark Brown, executive vice president, AAA Member Services. ``The Marriott
name is synonymous with hospitality, just as AAA is synonymous with security and trust. AAA members will welcome
Marriott's addition to the list of premier companies offering special values in travel through our Show Your Card
& Save® program.''
All AAA members will receive a special rate at AAA approved Marriott properties. To receive this, members need
to request the AAA rate upon making their reservation and show their membership cards when checking into the hotel.
In addition, special discount destination offers and brand specific offers will be created for AAA members or affiliated
club members. The offers will include value-added amenities such as room up-grades, discounts at property food
and beverage outlets, discounts at local attractions, coupons at local retail outlets.
The first Marriott destination offer for AAA members will be at the Marriott Village at Little Lake Bryan in Orlando,
Fla. The Marriott Village at Little Lake Bryan is a unique property, which includes three distinct Marriott hotel
brands brought together in a fully gated community. In addition to a Courtyard by Marriott hotel, Fairfield Inn
and SpringHill Suites, the Village features a European-style food court, 24-hour convenience store, several outdoor
swimming pools, a kids club, complimentary transportation to the area attractions, a fitness center and a guest
laundry. Guests may also purchase their attraction tickets to the theme parks in advance at AAA offices or visit
the on-site Disney Planning Center, located on the Village Green, for current park operating hours and special
event information.
As North America's largest motoring and leisure travel organization, AAA provides its 44 million members with travel,
insurance, financial and automotive-related services. Since its founding in 1902, AAA has been a leader and advocate
for the safety and security of all travelers. For more information, media are encouraged to visit the AAA NewsRoom
