HONOLULU, HI -- Renovation plans for Hilton at Turtle Bay Resort on Oahu's scenic North Shore are progressing as
scheduled.
In November 2000, the 485-room oceanfront resort began a multimillion-dollar renovation to the facade of the main
building. Estimated completion of the exterior project is on target for late August.
Plans are proceeding to refurbish the resort's guestrooms, said Peter H. Schall, senior vice president - Hawaii
Region, Hilton Hotels Corp. The owner of Turtle Bay Resort, Oaktree Capital Management, is committed to enhancing
the resort and subsequently restoring it to a four-star-plus quality property.
Architects Hawaii has been retained for the redesign of the public space. Michael Smith and Ginsler Design and
Architects will be responsible for the guestroom interiors.
``These are exciting times for Hilton at Turtle Bay,'' said Schall.
Oaktree Capital is focused on strengthening the overall resort image, and the comprehensive renovation to the hotel
and golf facility will enhance the appeal of the North Shore destination.
In addition to the enhancement projects, it was announced earlier this month that for the first time since 1992,
the Senior PGA Tour will return to the island of Oahu, formerly held on the island of Maui. The Turtle Bay Resort
will host the inaugural Turtle Bay Championship from Oct. 1-8, 2001.
The Palmer Course at Turtle Bay Resort -- formerly the Links at Kuilima and ranked eighth in the State of Hawaii
by Golf Digest -- will provide challenging play for this annual tournament. In further preparation for the golf
event, there are extensive renovations in progress to reopen the back nine of the Fazio Course at Turtle Bay Resort,
formerly the Turtle Bay Course. It has been named after George Fazio, who originally designed the course.
The Hilton at Turtle Bay is a complete destination resort offering 485 rooms with spectacular views of the Pacific
Ocean; secluded beaches with private coves; 36 holes of championship golf, upon completion of the renovation in
October 2001; 10 tennis courts; an equestrian center; hiking trails; two swimming pools; and Hawaiian cultural
activities.
