MACKINAC ISLAND, MI -- The Cottage Inn, Mackinac Island's newest overnight destination, will open on May 17, 2001 on Historic Market Street in downtown Mackinac. The eleven-room, three-story Inn will have beautifully decorated Mackinac Island-themed rooms with modern amenities, and turn-of-the-century (1900) architecture. The interior design was provided by La Belle Provence in Birmingham, Mich.

The Cottage Inn will be a fully air-conditioned, non-smoking building featuring a large porch and a beautiful turret. The guest rooms will have a boutique-like style with vibrant colors, imported fabrics, beautiful wallpapers, and original island-themed oil paintings. Some of the rooms will feature tiled steam showers, vaulted ceilings, canopy beds, and balconies. The average room price of $150 will include a fresh continental breakfast with delicious baked goods and gourmet coffees. Special off season rates and packages, and daily tours of the building will also be available.

``We wanted to create a unique, elegant boutique-style Inn that is fairly- priced and close to downtown attractions,'' says Bob Benser of The Cottage Inn. ``It was very important to us that we create an Inn that kept in the spirit of the architecture from the early 1900s, but with modern conveniences and amenities. We're a fun, colorful Inn, and the only property on the Island to offer all themed rooms.''

The Cottage Inn will cater to couples, seniors, and families. Two of the eleven rooms are large two-room suites for families. Some of the themed rooms are:
