WICHITA, KS -- Construction will begin later this spring in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., on the third Candlewood Suites in the state.

The new hotel -- set to open in March 2002 -- will be owned and operated by the Kornfeld family, of Wilkes-Barre, under a franchise agreement with Candlewood Hotel Co., of Wichita, Kan. The project is valued at about $5.7 million. Mitron Construction, also of Wilkes-Barre, is building the hotel.

The hotel is located off Interstate 81 at exit 47B, on Route 315. It is adjacent to the Hampton Inn, also owned by the Kornfeld family.

Candlewood Suites offers larger-than-average guest suites that are perfectly suited for business travelers and loaded with amenities. Each suite includes a complete kitchen, large work area and two phone lines including a data port. Amenities include free local phone calls and incoming faxes, free laundry facilities and an upscale exercise room.

Candlewood Hotel Co. (Nasdaq: CNDL) owns, operates and franchises Candlewood Suites; and operates and franchises Cambridge Suites. Both concepts serve travelers on short- or long-term stays. There are currently 91 Candlewood Suites open coast-to-coast.
