MICROS Launches First XML Two-Way Interface That Provides Single Image Inventory for Hotels

Wyndham International to Deploy Chainwide

Press Release: MICROS Systems, Inc.
March 29, 2001
COLUMBIA, MD -- MICROS Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: MCRS), a leading provider of information technology solutions for the hospitality industry, has created MICROS-Fidelio Exchange, a new two-way interface using state-of-the-art eXtensible Markup Language, or XML based technology, to provide seamless inventory availability between central and property operations. XML is used to define data types and map fields between systems so that data can be shared effortlessly.

Wyndham has successfully piloted this interface in one hotel and is preparing to roll-out to all of its branded upscale and luxury properties. The MICROS-Fidelio Exchange integrates MICROS's Central Reservations System (CRS) and Customer Information System with the company's Version 6 Property Management System (PMS) currently installed at the Wyndham hotel, creating a new level of management efficiency. This interface will also work with the OPERA Property Management System and other third party property management systems. The new interface facilitates full two-way synchronization of reservations, including shares, multiple rooms, wait list, no shows, cancellations, allotments, rate definitions, package definitions, and guest profiles, as well as a central lookup for customer profiles. The MICROS- Fidelio Exchange provides full support for centralized yield management and the ability for economical and fast deployment of OPUS 2's TopLine PROPHET Enterprise Management System, a yield management application developed by MICROS subsidiary OPUS 2.

Mark Hedley, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for Wyndham, stated, ``Most two-way interfaces on the market today cannot handle the different business rules between central and property level operations. With MICROS's new two-way interface, Wyndham now has the technology to streamline both central and property management operations and achieve its desired goal of single image inventory for last room sale capability, setting the stage for us to deploy MICROS's yield management system.''

Boro Petrovic, Vice President of Development and Chief Technologist for MICROS-Fidelio, explained that the two-way interface utilizes state-of-the-art technology including XML messaging, Microsoft Message Queueing delivery and Oracle Advanced Queueing delivery that results in real-time synchronization of inventory between central and property level operations. ``Our advanced design is based on a thorough understanding of both PMS and CRS functionality and operations. Additionally, MICROS's ability to enhance both systems to meet our customers' requirements has allowed us to go further than other two-way interfaces, thereby providing our customers with the maximum benefits and capabilities.''
