Press Release: American Classic Voyages Co.
June 12, 2001
MIAMI, FL -- American Classic Voyages Co. (Nasdaq: AMCV) announced yesterday that it is introducing a new logo
for its Delta Queen Steamboat Company product line and modifying that company's name to better reflect the history
of the riverboat and the company's relationship to sister product, Delta Queen Coastal Voyages, launched earlier
this year. The new logo, highlighting the majestic and ornate smokestacks of traditional riverboats, incorporates
some of the same graphic elements as the Delta Queen Coastal Voyages logo, which is an oval featuring a lighthouse
with stylistic waves below. The modification of the company name simply drops the identifier ``The'' before the
name and no longer abbreviates the word ``Company.''
``Delta Queen Steamboat Company has been a fixture since 1890 and the instantly recognizable calling card it has
brought to America's river communities for more than a century has been the soaring, fluted smokestacks of the
traditional riverboat,'' said Roderick K. McLeod, AMCV's president and chief operating officer. ``The new logo
better expresses the history of the company and the unique place it holds among vacation products. With a new logo
that draws from the past, we decided to tweak the company's name slightly to emphasize its strong ties to Delta
Queen Coastal Voyages. The emphasis of both Delta Queen products is on the rich heritage of the destinations they
visit and the heyday of travel by riverboat and coastal steamer. These changes reflect both that continuity and
the deep cultural underpinnings that define each vacation.''
The new logo is an upright oval surrounding two towering fluted smokestacks rising above the well-known image of
a gingerbread pilot house on a 19th century riverboat; three curved waves are incorporated into the lower portion
of the oval. The logo's vibrant reds, oranges and yellows reflect the red of riverboat paddlewheels and the warmth
of the river destinations served by Delta Queen Steamboat Company. The new Delta Queen Steamboat Company logo recently
debuted in a limited number of promotional materials and is gradually being introduced in items such as brochures,
collateral materials, merchandise, uniforms and onboard amenity items. A new brochure, detailing cruises in 2002
and featuring the new logo, will be available in July.
The logo was developed by Coral Gables, Fla.-based Tom Graboski Associates, Inc., which also developed key elements
of AMCV's corporate identity over the past decade, including the AMCV eagle logo, the Delta Queen Coastal Voyages
logo, United States Lines logo and onboard signage on several AMCV vessels.
Delta Queen Steamboat Company, which operates four traditional riverboats styled after the great paddlewheel steamboats
of the late 19th century, cruises on the Mississippi and Ohio River systems and in the Pacific Northwest, offering
30 destination-rich cruise vacations with an emphasis on the heritage and attractions of more than 50 of America's
river destinations. Delta Queen Steamboat Company traces its roots to 1890 and is a subsidiary of American Classic
Voyages Co., the world's largest U.S.-flag cruise company with a fleet of seven U.S.-crewed vessels. For more information,
